The best times to visit Cambodia in terms of weather and avoiding crowds are typically during the country's dry season, which runs from November to April. Within this period, the weather is generally more predictable, with lower chances of rainfall and comfortable temperatures. Here's a breakdown of the seasons and their implications for travelers:

  1. Dry Season (November to April):

    • Weather: This period experiences lower humidity and minimal rainfall, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Temperatures are generally pleasant, ranging from around 20°C (68°F) to 30°C (86°F).
    • Crowds: The dry season tends to attract more tourists, especially during the peak months of December and January. However, visiting in November or April can help you avoid the largest crowds while still enjoying favorable weather conditions.
  2. Shoulder Seasons (May and October):

    • Weather: May marks the beginning of the rainy season, with increasing humidity and occasional afternoon showers. October is towards the end of the rainy season, so rainfall starts to decrease. While it's not as dry as the peak months, you can still experience decent weather, particularly in early October.
    • Crowds: Crowds tend to be thinner during the shoulder seasons compared to the peak dry season months. Traveling during these times allows you to enjoy fewer crowds while still experiencing relatively good weather.
  3. Rainy Season (May to October):

    • Weather: The rainy season brings higher humidity and frequent rainfall, typically in the form of short but heavy afternoon showers. However, it's worth noting that Cambodia's rainy season doesn't mean constant rain all day, every day. There are still plenty of sunny intervals, and the landscape becomes lush and green.
    • Crowds: Tourism tends to decline during the rainy season due to concerns about weather conditions. While you may encounter fewer tourists, some attractions and activities may be affected by the rain or temporarily closed.
